PIM Knowledge

PIM Knowledge is Power!

So many technical terms, but what do they actually mean? We’ve created a library of useful topics to shed some light on the subject.

PIM Preparation

Ensure that adequate budget and resources are allotted for PIM introduction or optimization. Remember that internal stakeholders must also be given enough time. A “we can manage that on the side” approach often leads to delays and unreliability.

When do I need a PIM system?

Every company manages its product data in some way or another, so PIM (Product Information Management) is basically everywhere. However, established data  models, processes, and systems reach their limits at some point. These can no  longer be managed simply by deploying additional employees, adapting systems, or constantly maintaining new systems and lists.

WHEN DO I NEED A PIM SYSTEM?

PIM Costs

As companies very rarely deal with the introduction of PIM systems, it can be quite difficult for them to estimate the effort involved. In this article, we’ll briefly explain the internal costs to be expected when introducing PIM.

PIM Costs

PIM TCO

TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) refers to the total costs of an IT project, including all direct and indirect costs incurred over the entire life of the project. A comprehensive and realistic TCO assessment is important to ensure that all costs are taken into account and that the project budget is not exceeded.

PIM ROI

For companies, the question of ROI is often difficult to answer because, in addition to obvious savings and increases in turnover, many other factors play a role that are not apparent at first glance. This is because many working methods have been used unchanged for so long that the considerable potential of a PIM system to Simplifying and speeding up these processes is not obvious.

PIM Content

A PIM system manages technical data, texts, descriptions, channel-specific content, images, and documents. It focuses on product data, not customer or personnel data. Transactional data such as stock levels and prices often do not belong in the PIM system but in the ERP. Master data that does not change is primarily managed in the ERP. Technical data, images, and documents can be stored in the PIM or in the DAM (Data Asset Management). Texts and descriptions are created in the PIM and often translated with AI support. Channel mapping and multi-domain management extends the functionality of the PIM system.

B2B vs. B2C

When dealing with PIM systems and their implementation, there’s always the question of whether special systems and implementation partners are required for B2B or B2C or not. Here, we explain the main differences between PIM for B2b and PIM for B2C. Multi-domain management extends the functionality of the PIM system.

Retailer PIM vs Manufacturer PIM

Requirements vary greatly between retailers and manufacturers. While retailers consolidate and customize a wide range of product information, manufacturers focus on creating detailed data for their own products. These differences have a significant impact on the implementation and use of PIM systems.
