Founded in 2008, Magento is now owned by Adobe, support for version 1.9 has been discontinued, and Magento 1 and 2 are incompatible. Migration is a serious option for Magento customers. Why? Shopware 5 has been phased out as of 2024, and many companies will be forced to upgrade or change their store system. The move to version 6 may be cost-intensive due to many customizations and data, which is why a possible move to Shopify is also worthwhile here. For example, if the store is close to the Shopify standard and can be implemented without many extensions, ongoing service costs can be saved quickly.

With version 6, Shopware offers a Saas solution just like Shopify. However, it is not yet as mature in scope and function. The cost structure of Shopware is similar to that of Shopify. The community version is free, but there is no support, and the range of functions is very limited.

There are two plans for the cloud-based editions: (Starter Edition) “Free” and “Advanced” (with a monthly basic fee). In both variants, additional revenue shares are added, as with Shopify. Then there is the “Professional” variant (starts from €199 per month) or a one-off fee of €2,450 – but with the lowest revenue share.
