BRAUN Hamburg
BRAUN Hamburg has been an institution in the world of luxury menswear for more than 90 years. As an owner-managed family business – today run by Lars Braun in the third generation – the Hamburg fashion house combines deep brand knowledge with a hand-picked range of over 140 national and international designer brands. With three stores in the heart of Hamburg and an award-winning online shop, BRAUN Hamburg is on an international growth course – and is virtually unrivaled in Germany and Europe as a luxury menswear retailer.
Y1 Digital is responsible for the operation and continuous development of the Magento 2 platform, thereby creating the technical foundation for a digital shopping experience that meets the brand's standards: curated, exclusive and uncompromisingly high-quality.
BRAUN Hamburg operates not just one, but several online shops under a shared Magento 2 infrastructure – including the main shop braun-hamburg.com and the spin-off 04651.com for the menswear brand 04651/ A TRIP IN A BAG founded by Lars Braun. This multi-store architecture places special demands on stability, flexibility and the clean separation of content and target groups.
In addition, there is a complex system landscape: product data flows automatically from the ERP system via XML automation, common payment methods must be reliably integrated, and geo-localized content requires differentiated control depending on the market and location.
"Retail is detail", and even more so with demanding customers in the premium segment: mapping individual features in their entirety so that they are high-performing, stable and expandable at all times – and at the same time giving the BRAUN Hamburg team the necessary flexibility to deliver content quickly and reliably.
Tailor-made solutions for a complex platform
Retail in transition: One thing does not change, even in the third generation, and that is no compromise on products & services. That is why we have implemented a platform that keeps pace - and does so permanently.
At the center is a series of in-house developments that Y1 specially designed and implemented for BRAUN Hamburg: A staging module enables the controlled transfer of content from the staging to the live environment without editorial errors making their way uncontrolled into production. A geo-localized banner management allows for location-dependent display of advertising media. Flag management, badges and eye-catchers on product lists, as well as designer management, round off the editorial tools.
Particularly noteworthy is the Click & Meet function: customers can book appointments online in the physical stores – a bridge between the digital and physical shopping experience that fits the brand profile of BRAUN Hamburg. This is complemented by a fit guide on the product detail pages as well as a sophisticated size chart concept that facilitates purchase decisions in the online shop.
On the integration side, Y1 is responsible for connecting the ERP system Navision via automated XML imports, integrating Payone as the payment provider, as well as integrating ElasticSearch for high-performance product searches. With the switch to Insider One as the CRM platform, the foundation was also laid for modern marketing automation.
For customer service, a special login was developed that allows the support team to log in as a customer, use the shop frontend, and restrict certain payment methods – a feature that makes all the difference in the premium segment.

1. Conception & System Architecture
Requirement analysis, definition of the integration architecture (Navision, Payone, ElasticSearch), establishment of the multi-store infrastructure, and conception of the editorial processes.
2. Ongoing Operations & Continuous Development
Full platform operation by Y1, ticket-based development via JIRA, weekly Jour Fixe, three-stage testing environment (TEST → STAGE → LIVE).
3. Hyvä Facelift – Frontend Modernization
Migration to Hyvä (Alpine.js + Tailwind CSS) with the goal of reducing loading times, improving Core Web Vitals, and laying the foundation for future UX optimizations.
Today, BRAUN Hamburg possesses a stable, expandable e-commerce platform that meets the requirements of a luxury menswear retailer.
